How to delete words from Firefox's user dictionary

I love Firefox's new 'spell check-no-the-fly' feature. But what if you accidentally click the wrong thing and add a word you didn't want in to the dictionary? No problem. First you are going to need to find your Firefox Profile (link to instructions here). Then find the file called “persdict.dat”. Open that up in a text editor, delete the words you don’t want in there, and then restart Firefox. Your dictionary should be nice and clean.

  • You should point out that if you've not previously added words to the dictionary then this file is not created until Firefox is closed.
