Somehow I between all my bookmark syncing things got duplicated. Better than deleted to be sure but it was a mess. This extension saved me a bunch of time.
1) Disable Chrome bookmarks sync on all browsers (if you can't do this then book marks make keep coming back for a while until things settle out. This extension will help you keep fixing things until they do).
2) Install "SuperSorter" chrome extension
3) Move all toolbar folders under "Other Bookmarks"  (this part is critical. The extension doesn't seem to see folders outside of the "Other Bookmarks" folder).
4) Run the sort & dedupe multiple times until no more changes – now all the dup folders are merged and deduped.  You have the union of all distinct bookmarks.
