San Diego Wildfire Update 23 October Morning

Things remain bad. As of about 7:30 this morning here is what is burning:

The Witch fire:

* 164,000 cares. One percent contained.

* Seven firefighters and one civilian have been injured. Two additional injuries were reported this morning - it is unknown as yet if they were firefighters or civilians.

* 500 homes destroyed. 250 damaged.

* 100 commercial properties destroyed, 75 damaged.

* 50 outbuildings destroyed, 50 damaged.

The fire is passing through several communities including parts of San Diego, Poway, Ramona, Lakeside, Valley Center, San Marcos, Rincon, Wildcat Canyon and Rancho Santa Fe, said Cal Fire Capt. Don Camp.

The fire is burning between Interstates 5 and 15 and is heading west towards the beach.

Winds are blowing south and south west at 10 t0 20 miles per hour.

The temperature is 75 degrees, humidity is at 6 percent.

The Rice Fire:

* 6,100 acres. Zero percent contained.

* One injury.

* 500 homes destroyed, 30 damaged.

The fire is burning on both sides on Interstate 15 towards Fallbrook as well as to the north. The blaze may merge with the Rosa Fire in Riverside County.

The fire is burning in the Santa Margarita and Sandia Creek drainage areas. Fallbrook could be threatened in the next 12 hours. Fallbrook and Oceanside could be threatened in the next 24 hours.

The Harris Fire:

According to Cal Fire, here are the most recent stats on the Harris fire:
* 70,000 acres burned
* 5 percent contained
* 200 homes have been destroyed and 250 damaged including more than 50 home in Deer Horn Valley/Honey Springs area.

The number of homes destroyed could go as high as 500.

The fire is moving rapidly south and southwest into the Chula Vista/Otay Lakes area, Camp said.

The Poochma Fire:

* Started overnight on the La Jolla Indian Reservation has burned about 1,000 acres in Pauma Valley
* 8 people injured
