WordPress XMLRPC Endpoint

One of the cool things about WordPress is you can set up external services like Del.icio.us, Flickr and Blip.tv to post to your blog. In Flickr for example you click ‘blog this’ and one of your photos will be posted as a blog entry.

When I installed WordPress last week I started going through and getting my accounts set up for this feature. Then I ran into a problem. Although Windows Live Writer uses the same endpoint, the other services couldn’t seem to find it. It was there and I could verify that it was but nothing seemed to work. Additionally, all the forums I looked through didn’t seem to have an answer either.

Looking deeper I noticed that the version of WordPress that was installed through my hosting provider is version 2.1. The current version as of this writing is 2.1.3. Figuring I had nothing to lose I ventured into the waters of upgrading my WordPress to the current version. This was really easy. WordPress has some good instructions for doing it if you never had or it’s been a while. The hardest part is waiting for everything to back up just in case.

The happy ending here is that cross posting via XMLRPC now works! So hopefully others out there are able to get this working as well.
