Microsoft opens up Virtual PC hard drive format

arstechnica: Microsoft has announced that they will be opening up the Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) format used by Virtual PC, making it freely available in perpetuity under their Open Specification Promise (OSP). The OSP not only allows anyone to create an implementation under a given format with no need for a license, but also includes an irrevocable promise that Microsoft will never take legal action against anyone who creates such an implementation.
