Quickly Fixing Firefox After a Crash
Every once in a while, due to whatever strangeness happens on your system or the web, Firefox will crash. When you try to start it back up you either get an error message that it is still running or it just doesn't come back at all. A quick look at your Windows task manager shows that Firefox.exe is still running and you can end the task and start Firefox again, usually without problem.
I don't like all that mucking about with Task Manager. Yeah it isn't that hard but I wanted a utility that I could run that just fixed it and then I could start Firefox again. After a bit of searching I found just that thing. Sorry gang this is Windows only.
Here is what you need:
Go download the Command Line Process Viewer/Killer/Suspender for Windows NT/2000/XP. It's a small (25K) freeware program that does way more than we need. When you get the zip file, extract the contents to your C:\ directory.
Next, create a text file in your C:\ directory called FixFox.bat (the .bat extension is critical)
In that file put the following:
c:\process -k firefox.exe
Now, if you want, make a shortcut to that file and save it on your desktop.
If your Firefox Browser crashes, simply double click that shortcut to run the batch file and all instances of Firefox.exe will be shutdown and you can start a new session.
