Tech.Memorandum: A good thing?
There has been some discussion on TechCrunch and the RSS Blog as well as elsewhere about the value and importance of Tech.Memorandum.
I like the site because, in addition to the hot topic issues, you find others that aren't as linked to but provide insite to the long tail. I do think it raises some interesting questions. Is it causing people to blog about things they weren't blogging about before? Perhaps. I think people not as dialed in or further from the source of press releases, insider info and things like that may find a hot topic on memorandum and decide they should blog about it as well. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it would be good for these bloggers (I include myself as I rethink these things) to bring something new, be it a different opinion or an insite that others haven't grasped yet, to the conversation. Additionally, those long tail topics are a good source of material because they are the ones that aren't linked to as much so the whole blogosphere isn't talking about them so your content isn't as diluted.
What I'm wondering is, should you link and blog about hot topic items on memorandum no matter what? If you don't, is your blog going to disappear into obscurity? It shouldn't if you have content people want to read but if the world goes to memorandum they may never find you if you don't link to hot topics. So, as such, is linking to hot topics that appear on memorandum a form of SEO? You bet. But you'd better have content for them to read when they get to you or they won't subscribe.
